A Taste of San Diego is getting ready to launch a new tour called A Taste of Downtown.
This will be a walking tour about 1.2 Miles around Downtown San Diego. We won't be taking you to any places on 5th Ave because you can find those yourself. We will take you to places off that beaten path just like our driving tour.
The tour will be from 3PM to 6PM Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday's.
We will visit from 6 to 7 places & will taste any where from 12 to 14 yummy items.

Hi Annette! Great job with the website and the blog! You have such a great "foodie" experience here, I can't wait to try it! -Deborah
ReplyDeleteWhat a Great Experience!! Never knew San diego had these great hole in the wall restaurants. Can't wait for the downtown tour!
ReplyDeleteThis was so much FUN! It was my first food tour and I am hooked! Even as a vegetarian I had plenty of options and was fully satisfied. Annette is a wonderful tour guide and has so much history to share about these culinary treasures. Come hungry and ENJOY!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great tour! This was my first food tour and my first time in San Diego. If I had to choose between the trolley tour and this, I would choose this. Annette was a great guide and took us to such interesting and tasty places that I never would have found on my own. I will definitely go on another tour if I ever come back to visit. Now I have a long list of great restaurants to go back and try more! Definitely come hungry, don't eat before hand!

ReplyDeleteWhat an all around great experience! If you want to meet friendly people, see the sites of San Diego, and eat eat eat awesome food...this is it. What a great way to spend an afternoon. You'll learn some of San Diego's history while tasting the specialties of some older mom and pop restaurants. You can't go wrong. Phenomenal food, tons of fun, and best of all you don't have to drive! (Warning: Food coma may occur) Bring your appetite!
Took my boyfriend on the tour for his birthday, great time! Venissimo Cheese was so much fun - there was every cheese anyone could possibly imagine and we got a fantastic sampling of the best ones! Going back for their cheese+wine and cheese+chocolate presentations : ) The dessert at Jsix was incredible, a beautiful presentation and delicious portion of their chocolate cheesecake. Setting up a dine+wine experience with their cook very soon. Thanks annette, for a fabulously yummy day!
ReplyDeleteHi Annette,
ReplyDeleteWe loved the Downtown tour, it was a highlight of our visit to SD. It was so much fun trying places we never would have found on our own. We took home coffee and tea and even went back to the bakery for sandwiches to take with us on the plane back to Chicago. I would highly recommend your tour to anyone visiting San Diego.

Went on the downtown tour on April 29th. We had plenty of food and it was fantastic. Taking a walk to the restaurants was great as it gives you a chance to digest. I loved buying things along the way as well. I would highly recommend this to everyone. Even if you live in San Diego as I do, I had never been to any of the places before and I will definitely go back!! Thank you for a great day!!! Shari B
ReplyDeleteWe have launched our newest food tour "Triple D Food Tour" If you watch the Food Network, Guy Fieri has a show called Diners, Drive-in's and Dives and he refers to his show as “Triple D”. Guy has been to 8 San Diego Restaurants! There are 7 in the City of San Diego & we will take guests to see all 7 places & eat at 5 of them. Book a tour & see what Guy experienced when he was America’s Finest City!
ReplyDeleteHi Annette,
ReplyDeleteDan & I really enjoyed the Triple D Food Tour and all of the information you gave us about San Diego, we were certainly lucky to have you all to ourselves :) I am glad we went to the zoo the following day so we could wear off some of the food we had when we were with you. We tried to pick our favorite of all spots and couldn't choose one over the other!
We will be spreading the word of the outstanding job you do, you can bet on it!

We thought the food and selection was perfectly organized throughout each course of what indeed was a complete meal. From appetizers, to main courses to desert, it was truly a great experience. Parking and finding our tour guide was easy as pie, which by the way, desert was great at J Six!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for such an enjoyable day of what was a great combination of cuisine. We totally intend on recommending to family and friends who will be visiting San Diego!

We went on the Downtown tour & you do not have tastes you eat a lot of food. This was a early dinner & we had so much fun we will do it again. The dessert was so good!
ReplyDeleteAnnette your Triple D Tour was great. It was fun seeing where Guy Fieri has been in San Diego. We had a great time taking pictures too. I am not sure which place was my favorite because they were all great choices. I will be telling all my friends about your food tours. Thanks for such a great time. Sincerely, Gina
ReplyDeleteI had to put this on our blog. Last week one of our guests Tom asked if anyone has ever past out with the amount of food we give them! Everyone laughed & I told him that can be a goal for us. One of the ladies asked if he could pass out right then so everyone could share his dessert. Just had to share the story
ReplyDeleteAnnette, Your downtown tour was a great way to spend time with my girlfriends & try some great food. You need to take taste out of you name because we ate. You basically fed us a dinner with a variety of cuisines and that Cheese and Dessert WOW! I was full but could not stop eating that dessert. My friends and I cannot wait for your other walking tours; we will be taking them for sure. Thanks for a great afternoon. Sincerely, Marie from San Diego
ReplyDeleteWe only had a few days to spend in San Diego and was really glad we joined this tour. We not only saw the sights but we got to taste the hidden gems that San Diego had to offer. The food tasting was great! By the end of the tour, my husband and i were really full and even skipped dinner. Oh did i mention that they chauffeur you around town?
ReplyDeleteWill definitely recommend to all my friends coming to the area.
Thumbs up to Annette and crew!
Leigh from VA
Annette was awesome host. There were just two of us on this tour because the other party unfortunately had a medical issue arise.
ReplyDeleteAnnette gave us a private tour of many wonderful eatery's that we would have missed in our four short day vacation.
Because we didn't have the extra people in our group, there was way more food than we could eat.
We ended up having to cut the tour short, too many culinary delights! I wish my stomach were bigger.
We'll be back and are recommending Taste of San Diego to everyone in the North West and beyond!

For our anniversary my girlfriend took me on this food tour. I’ve never been on something of this sort, or even heard of it. When she told me what we had in store, I was more than excited. Being from San Diego, I felt bad that I hadn't been to one place in the tour. We hit 7 places on the tour, all of them amazing. The hostess & owner Annette is very knowledgeable and friendly too. The spots on the tour are not your 5 star restaurants, more mom and pop places that only locals would know about or not, since I'm a local and didn’t know any of these places. This is something great to do with a loved one or friends. I give it 5 stars. Dorian from San Diego
ReplyDeleteI'm originally from San Diego but now I live in Riverside, CA and for me and my boyfriend's anniversary we decided to spend it back "home". Although my boyfriend lives in San Diego I decided that instead of going out to dinner at ONE restaurant, I wanted to take him on a food tour to change it up a little. Seriously, I think it was the best idea ever! He even said so! A Taste of San Diego is a tour I would recommend to locals and non-locals! I thought I knew San Diego like the back of my hand BUT I was so wrong (but in a good way). The owner, Annette, was an amazing hostess with fun facts throughout the tour. We both have never been on a food tour and for our first time we were more than pleased. We were chauffeured around town in her air-conditioned van which was an absolute plus. We went to Seven different restaurants which were all superb in their own way. I was amazed on how many great restaurants there are in San Diego that I didn't know about. Portions were perfect! Everything was great! 5 stars without a doubt! ST from Riverside
ReplyDeleteDuring a ten day visit to San Diego in July 2010, we took the 3D Food Tour of San Diego that visits some of the dining establishments highlighted on Guy Fieri’s Food Network show, Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Annette (the owner) was our tour guide for the day. The tour lasted from 9:30 am to 2 pm and included five (5) dining stops: a diner for breakfast, a pizza parlor, a hamburger joint, a seafood restaurant for lunch, and a Mexican restaurant for dessert. Although the three of us were the only attendees for that particular tour and day, we had a wonderful time. Annette is extremely passionate where food is concerned, very knowledgeable of dining restaurants/options within the city, and provides a constant flow of information. The portion sizes at each stop were sufficient enough to obtain a good sense and flavor of the food. The selections chosen at the diner and seafood restaurants were our favorites; and the hamburger stop highlighted an extensive and interesting selection of burgers.
ReplyDeleteAlthough we traveled with a group of 11 family members, we were the only three to take the tour. Afterwards, we informed the others that they missed a great experience. As a matter of fact, we returned later that night to the seafood and Mexican restaurants with four other group members and everyone enjoyed a good meal and dessert.
We highly recommend the 3D Food Tour; at the end it was well worth the cost of $99.00 per person. Annette is a wonderful and entertaining tour guide. This was our first food tour experience of any kind and so enjoyable that we intend to repeat it when traveling again.

Thank you for a wonderful afternoon. May was fabulous. We had a group of 6 today 8/10/10 and could not have had a better time. The food at each stop was very good. I esp. liked the cheese stop. Sam was very helpful and informative. We all bought enough cheese to take home and start our own shop.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to spend an afternoon with friends.
Thank you,
Doug
We never knew food tours existed & then we cam across your when we were looking for things to do in San Diego. What a Great idea & we all had so much fun on your downtown tour. We had no idea the amount of food you were going to give. We really thought we would have to get dinner after & we were full after your tour. Love the variety of food to & Loved that dessert YUM! Thanks & we are looking forward to your Mission Hills Tour! Sue from Orange County
ReplyDeleteWe took the "Downtown Walk" today with Annette. It was great and she is excellent. You will love this tour and I'm sure any of the others they offer. There was a great variety of foods, all of which were very good. I especially liked the meditteranian restaurant and of course dessert at JSix! Thanks Annette I would recommmend this to anyone that likes good food!

ReplyDeleteIf you like good food this tour is a no brainer. You get to sample from many restaurants doing what they do best and since its all inclusive you get the opportunity to try foods you normally wouldn't order. $99 for 7 or 8 restaurants is an incredible deal. This includes transportation too. No stress whatsoever, just sit back and relax - you will be impressed with Annette as well as the food - she gives you background info on all the stops and is very pleasant to be around.I had so much fun on this trip I cant wait to come back and do it again....and again.
ReplyDeleteWow! A Taste of San Diego truly delivers in both food and fun. Both the "Downtown" and "Mission Hills" tours will not leave you wanting... Plan to eat, and then eat some more. What makes both tours so special has something to do with Annette's affinity for great food coupled with her passion for the locations she has chosen. The restaurants were varied, inviting, and made us feel welcome. I will happily recommend both tours to friends and family - as well as revisit these great new places to dine in San Diego! Thanks Annette for making it all so special!
ReplyDeleteI was able to take the Mission Hills tour today and it was amazing. Annette does a great job leading the tour and the places that you go are amazing. They are places that unless you went on the tour you probably would look over and never get to experience them. All the places we went were amazing and I am going to be making trips back to these places because the food was that good. Great job Annette the tour was awsome.
ReplyDeleteThe Mission Hills food tour reminded me of thanksgiving, I was stuffed full of great food! As a San Diego native the tour opened my eyes and appetite to restuarants I didnt know were there. Annette did a great job leading our group through the tour. The food was oustanding, I will definitely be visiting some of the places in the near future. Come hungry because you will be stuffed when it's over!! Thank You to "A Taste of San Diego!"
ReplyDeleteI had four fun Ladies on my Mission Hills tour yesterday that were celebrating a birthday.
ReplyDeleteWhat great ladies!
They have a gourmet group where they look for different culinary things to do & suggested that I post on our website culinary things to do that I have done & enjoyed.
Here is one culinary experience I absolutely loved! JSix restaurant downtown has an amazing Award Wining Chef, Christian Graves who offers his “Chefs Kitchen Experience” the 3rd Sunday of the month.
I have done this & it was a great way to spend a Sunday. If you are into food, you should really do this Kitchen Experience. You will not be disappointed. It is a great way to spend the day with friends, spend the day for your birthday or anniversary.
Check out their website for more info & dates: http://www.jsixrestaurant.com/
Enjoy!
I went on the downtown walking food tour with some friends. As a senior native San Diegan we were shown places we had never been to & the walk was not tiring at all.
ReplyDeleteAnnette was passionate & knowledgeable about her tour.
We got more food than we thought we would & it was very good. There was a lot of food that we even took a doggie bag home.
My favorite place was the Bakery & I even bought some bread to take home.
If you are looking for something different with to do with friends or like food you should take her tours, you will be so surprised & pleased.

ReplyDeleteThis was our first tour and it was the Downtown walking tour. The food was so yummy. There was plenty of food on the tour that we didn't have to worry about dinner. Our tour guide was very nice and made the experience very comfortable and fun!! I would so do this again and recommend to anyone who visits the area!

This was my first time in San Diego and my first food tour. I absolutely loved it and thought the food was fantastic. I loved that they were all restaurants that I probably wouldn't have tried on my own.
ReplyDeleteThis was my second tour I had done the Mission Hills tour before and it was fantastic. I did the downtown tour today and it was just as great. The food was awsome and we went to places that I would have never of gone into, but I will definetely be going to them again soon. Our tour guide Ken did a great job describing each place, and also was very entertaining and knowledgeable about the place that we ate at. Overall a very good experience and would recommend it to anyone.
ReplyDeleteI just went on the Downtown food tour and loved it! The food was excellent as was our tour guide Ken. As a San Diego native I'm ashamed to say I never heard of the six restuarants we ate at, and now will for sure be going back for seconds to all! I consider myself a carne asada expert and thought I had found the best until today. Words can't describe the carne asada tacos we had, best carne in San Diego by far! Cheers to A Taste of San Diego!
ReplyDeleteAnnette,
ReplyDeleteI think we all agree we are all very full :)
The desserts are stupendous!
We had, honestly a FANTASTIC time!
Thanks for taking such good care of us!
Have a great week! Happy Valentine's Day!
The Navy Wives from the USS Halsey!
I loved it!!! I will be going back to all of the stops. It was really fun!!! I think people would really enjoy doing this that are visiting the city. I felt like I was on vacation myself. I was really impressed!!! Can't wait to pick up some of that fried rice!! Not to mention the cheese store and that desert was the best I've ever tasted!!! Really neat places.

Hi Annette-
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the tour on Thursday. I finally got my appetite back this morning. Nancy and I had a great time, and you always make it so fun. Nancy wants to take the kids to Studio Diner because we know that they will love it.
Jeff
Whether you are a San Diego local or not, you should definitely take one of Annette's food tours because you will find lots of fun and food! Not only was the food absolutely amazing but there was such a nice variety of it as well: baked goods, Mexican food, Mediterranean food, Asian food, worldly cheeses, and a lovely delectable dessert to finish! But besides enjoying the food, I also enjoyed the company! Annette is so much fun and really knows her stuff about food! I can't wait to take another tour! :)
ReplyDelete~Kristin
I was wondering if the restaurants had gluten free options?
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! I've lived in San Diego all my life and was still surprised by the gems discovered on this tour. The diversity of restaurants is great and the amount of food offered was a surprise--I was stuffed (with delight) when the tour ended. The tours guides, Annette and Julie were passionate and personable and really added to the enjoyment of this experience! Attention Locals: you've got to try
ReplyDeletethis, and all you tourists out there, this is not to be missed!
I had the best time at this tour. Not only was the food awesome but the tour guides were fantastic :) All the different types of food kept me fully satisfied. I was SO full at the end of the tour but still couldn't wait to try this again! A must for both locals as well as visitors!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to spend the afternoon!!
ReplyDeleteWe took the walking tour and we were introduced to some wonderful restaurants serving mexican, greek, and asian cuisine. Everything was delightful; our informative tour guide, the casual and relaxing pace and the yummy food. I especially loved the fried rice and the amazing dessert!!
I would highly recommend this tour to locals (like me) or visitors (we brought family along from the East Coast).
Thank you, A Taste of San Diego, for an awesome and eye-opening experience!!!
I took the Taste of Downtown tour & it was a highlight of my vacation. Our guide Annette made me feel welcome & was very friendly & knowledgeable. We visted a Thai, Mexican & Turkish restaurant-all of which made their food in the traditional ways of their countries-the food was not Americanized. And Annette was very good in explaining the differences. We also visited a Cheese shop where we got to experience a variety of cheeses and if there was something else you wished to try it was not a problem. And last but not least we visited a restaurant for a chocolate desert that was to die for-apparently not many places serve this because it takes to long to make. So if you find yourself in San Diego I would highly reccommend this tour. Thanks again Annette for a great experience.
